The economy of Bihar is mainly based on agriculture. Muzaffarpur district is considered an important area for agricultural diversity as well as for the production of agricultural crops. The agricultural structure here comprises different types of farmers with different sizes of cultivable land holdings, among which semi-medium farmers (2-4 hectares) represent a particularly important category in terms of agricultural crop production, investment, technology adoption and marketing arrangements. The present research article analyzes the role of semi-middle-class farmers in Muzaffarpur district. Studies have shown that this class plays a vital role in agricultural production, crop diversification, technology transfer, market participation, and employment generation in the rural economy. Although challenges like rising agricultural costs, lack of marketing facilities, shortage of education facilities and absence of warehousing system are faced, semi-middle farmers play a crucial role in maintaining the agricultural growth rate of the district and strengthening the rural economy. This study can prove useful in agricultural policy making and local development planning.
