The emergence of information communication technologies seems to change the nature of
agricultural cooperatives and their impact on people and nation-states. There are several core
assumptions behind cooperatives: voluntary and open membership, democratic member control,
member economic participation, autonomy and independence, education training and information,
cooperation among cooperatives and concern for the community.
