Abstract
India today is at a crossroad. Post 1991, this nation of a billion people has seen a lot of developments in
terms of economic prosperity. India today boasts of one of the world’s largest middle class population
and an ever increasing consumer class. According to a McKinsey report, India currently is world’s 12th
Largest Consumer market. By 2025, India is expected to overtake Germany to become world’s 5th
largest consumer market. However everything is not so hunky-dory, there is a flip side to the story. On
one hand, we have done exceptionally well on few parameters, we are still faced with a situation where
there is a deep divide between the urban and rural development. India still possess world’s largest
population of Poor, Illiterates, Malnourished Kids, Slum Dwellers, Open defecators, Unavailability of
safe & clean drinking water, Exceptionally high level of corruption ,Degrading environment etc. In
short, without taking any credit away from India for what it has achieved so far, there is much more to
do in order to truly change the face of India.
